A Free Celebration of Literacy, Bilingual Education, Storytelling, and Family Fun Comes to West Hollywood Park on August 23

Families across Southern California are invited to experience one of the region’s most anticipated children’s literacy events as the 4th Annual Los Angeles Kids Book Festival (LAKBF) returns on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at West Hollywood Park. As the largest free celebration of early childhood education, bilingualism, and multiculturalism in Los Angeles, the festival promises an unforgettable day filled with books, creativity, live entertainment, and interactive educational experiences.

Presented by the American Born Chinese Foundation, in partnership with the City of West Hollywood and proudly sponsored by the Los Angeles Clippers, the festival continues its mission of inspiring a lifelong love of reading while making literacy accessible to children from every background. The event has become a signature gathering where families, educators, authors, illustrators, publishers, and community organizations unite to celebrate the power of storytelling.

Visitors can expect more than 100 exhibitors, including children’s authors, illustrators, educational organizations, and publishers showcasing books designed to encourage curiosity, creativity, and cultural understanding. Throughout the day, families will enjoy bilingual storytimes, live musical performances, interactive demonstrations, hands-on activities, and opportunities to meet some of today’s most exciting voices in children’s literature.

One of this year’s highlights is an expanded lineup of author and industry panels held inside the West Hollywood Recreation Center. Aspiring writers, educators, and parents will gain valuable insight into writing children’s books, publishing, illustration, and the growing children’s content industry. These educational sessions add another dimension to the festival by supporting both young readers and future creators.

The festival also emphasizes inclusivity through thoughtfully designed family spaces. The Play2Progress Chill Zone will feature a sensory-friendly quiet room for children needing a calm environment during the day’s activities, along with a dedicated nursing station to ensure families feel welcomed and supported throughout the event.

Entertainment will keep the excitement going all day with appearances from BeatBuds, Chloe and Maud’s Sole Talks (Syncopated Ladies Junior Group), Rebelot Italian Bilingual Children’s Puppet Theater, live calligraphy demonstrations, IDW Publishing drawing sessions, and special appearances by beloved children’s personalities Blippi and Meekah. Guests will also enjoy readings by illustrator Raleigh Stewart, known for The Fly Who Flew children’s book series, before the festival concludes with its highly anticipated Foam Party celebration.

Beyond entertainment, the Los Angeles Kids Book Festival reflects a broader commitment to diversity, inclusion, and educational equity. The American Born Chinese Foundation works to increase access to bilingual books, support multicultural authors and illustrators, and ensure children see themselves represented in the stories they read.
